Matsumi is not just one of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever been to, it is located in my hometown Hamburg, Germany. So I am lucky and went there more often than to any other sushi restaurant around the world. Every time I am amazed by their attention to detail and passion about food taste and quality. So even for a quick lunch break, it is one of the best choice in the central business district of Hamburg.
Sashimi for Lunch
This time I went there for just a quick bite and had a small but totally amazing sashimi plate with chu toro (bluefin medium fatty tuna belly), hara toro (bluefin fatty tuna belly) and maguro (bluefin tuna back). It is always and absolute delight to experience the spectrum of textures and tastes a bluefin tuna offers. It is almost unbelievable that all of these pieces come from exactly the same fish.
Sushi Guide Verdict
As always I felt welcome and at home at Matsumi and enjoyed the unique atmosphere and ambience interior design. Even when the restaurant is fully booked, I still feel like being in a small, cozy and familiar setting. The menu options are outstanding for dinner while only a subset of the menu is available for lunch. Still whatever you can chose is of the highest quality and as fresh as it can get. For a lunch break, the drink menu didn’t seem that important to me but one can still chose from the various options they have on the menu. At any given time, the service at Matsumi is outstanding. As many times before, I recommend this restaurant to sushi newcomers and die hard sushi lovers alike.
