Kujin – Izakaya Style Teppanyaki Kitchen in Elizabeth Bay, Sydney

sushi chef Australia, New South Wales, Sydney Leave a Comment

Kujin is an izakaya style teppanyaki kitchen in Elizabeth Bay, just minutes away from Kings Cross and Potts Point, Sydney. It serves home made noodles from an open kitchen as well as fresh seafood sashimi and nigiri sourced at the local fish market everyday. The restaurant is a sister of Busshari, an authentic Japanese restaurant in Potts Point, just moments away on the MacLeay Street.

Nigiri Lunch

I walked by this restaurant almost every day but only went there once. As it is not advertised as a sushi restaurant per se, I was hesitant to try it out. Still I was surprised by the experience. I focussed on the daily sashimi and nigiri options, of which I considered the toro (bluefin fatty tuna belly) nigiri to be the most delicious.

Sushi Guide Verdict

Kujin is a dark and cozy restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere. It lacks the stylish setup of its sister restaurant Busshari, but still provided a nice setting for a quick lunch or dinner. The menu option are quite good although sushi is not the primary focus of the restaurant. The taste and quality of the fish was very good. The drink menu is also good for a quick meal. For a night out with wine or cocktails, I would recommend going somewhere else. The service was friendly and forthcoming and made the stay a nice experience.
